WesBanco enjoys a solid customer base in Marietta, Ohio. In the past, it served customers in two offices, both located in the Ohio River flood plain. One of the branches was owned by the bank, but did not offer full service. The other location offered more amenities, but its lease was soon to expire.
The bank sought to optimize its branch distribution network while maintaining continuous service for its Marietta customers. At the same time, the bank needed to comply with FEMA regulations and protect the facility from potential flooding of the Ohio River. WesBanco turned to Overton & Associates for the expert design and construction services it needed.
After discussing WesBanco’s concerns and assessing its facilities, we planned and implemented a branch optimization plan. We assisted in the needs assessment, investigated real estate options in the community, and developed a new building design to address all of the bank’s needs.
Central to our plan was a strategy for keeping the existing facility open and functional while we built the new facility on an adjacent property. We installed a new traffic lane for the existing property to keep customers safe during the construction of the new building and later, the razing of the old facility. We also installed fencing to allow continuous operation of the drive-through window, and a temporary parking lot for employees and contractors.
Meanwhile, to comply with FEMA requirements, we designed and installed automatic flood vents to allow floodwater to flow through the building on the first floor, while flood barricades were constructed to keep water from penetrating the sensitive elevator bank equipment room and ATM areas. The new facility features 6,700 square feet, four drive-through lanes, an ATM, and a host of other features. Best of all, WesBanco has reduced annual occupancy costs, and reinforced its commitment to its customers and the community.
